The Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP) has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation with China across critical sectors such as trade, infrastructure, investment, technology transfer, and capacity building.
Speaking at the Second Post-Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) West Africa Conference held in Abuja, Director General of the NCSP, Mr. Joseph Tegbe, highlighted the exponential growth of China’s financial commitment to Africa—from $5 billion in 2006 to over $50.7 billion in 2024—driving transformative projects across the continent.
Mr. Tegbe noted that Nigeria remains a major beneficiary of the China-Africa development agenda and emphasized the NCSP’s strategic role in fostering greater collaboration between public and private sector stakeholders.
Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Yu Dunhai, also addressed the gathering, stressing the significance of the 2024 FOCAC Summit held in September, where Chinese President Xi Jinping and African leaders launched two key initiatives—“Six Modernizations” and “Ten Partnership Actions.” These frameworks aim to accelerate China-Africa modernization and reflect the shared aspirations of over 2.8 billion people across both regions.
Ambassador Yu also referenced President Xi’s recent address at the Changsha Ministerial Meeting, where new support measures were introduced, including expanded zero-tariff access, enhanced trade facilitation, and strengthened cooperation mechanisms.
Retired Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to the late General Sani Abacha, urged African countries to study China’s development model and leverage the power of media to inspire a new generation of African leaders and innovators.
Professor Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim, Director of the Centre for Contemporary China-Africa Research, provided a detailed breakdown of the Ten Partnership Action Plans set for implementation over the next three years. He described Chinese modernization as a blueprint for mutual prosperity, inclusive growth, and the creation of “a community with a shared future for mankind.”
The Post-FOCAC forum served as a platform to assess the progress of China-Africa cooperation initiatives and explore new strategies for scaling up development efforts under the evolving partnership framework.
