Breastfeeding mothers in Nasarawa state have been advised to feed their babies with only breast milk to enable them to have healthy growth.
First lady of the State Hajiya Silifat Sule gave the advice at this year’s world breastfeeding week organized by the State Ministry of Health in lafia.
Hajiya Sule noted that breastfeeding bonds mother and child aside from providing strength and healthy growth
She urged parents to monitor the activities of their children to prevent them from indulging in unwanted acts particularly as they are on holiday.

In a remark, the State Commissioner for Health Doctor Gaza gwamna explained that breast feeding provides essential nutrients, antibodies, bonding opportunities and brain development.
Doctor Gwamna maintained that breast feeding is the first immunization that mothers are expected to give a child, stressing the need for mothers to ensure that their children have the routine immunizations.
Some breastfeeding mothers at the event Blessing yohana and patience Timothy while highlighting the importance of exclusive breastfeeding to children, pointed out that their children were growing stronger and healthy.
The theme for this year’s world breastfeeding day is “Prioritise Breast Feeding, create sustainable support systems” which focus on environment and climate change,
emphasizing the role of breastfeeding in creating a sustainable environment.
