Community leaders, experts, and young people have converged on Jos to discuss empowering the next generation.
National Population Commission, in collaboration with the Plateau state Government, donors, and partners, organized the event to commemorate the 2025 World Population Day.
The 2025 World Population Day Commemoration Brought together National, state, Community leaders, experts, and young people to discuss empowering the next generation.
Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission, Mary Ishaya Afan MNI, noted that investing in young people would add value to national development.
Afan stressed the need for dialogue and discussion to chart a new front for nation-building.
In an address, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by the State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Adamu Bulus said this year’s theme, “Empowering Young People to Create Families They Want in a Fair and Hopeful World,” highlights the importance of giving young people the tools and resources they need to make informed choices about their reproductive health, education, and family planning.
Governor Mutfwang assured the youths in the state of his commitment, noting that as the world population continues to grow, it’s crucial to prioritize young people’s needs and rights.
In a goodwill message, the State Director of the National Orientation Agency, NOA Kaneng Pam-Hworo, issued a call to action for governments, organizations, and individuals to work together to create a fair and hopeful world for all, adding that NOA will continue to partner and support the NPC’s activities in promoting national development.
The Chairman of Plateau Youths Council, Ambassador Paul Mancha, noted that the youths are yearning for inclusiveness in governance, and therefore appreciated the organizers for recognizing their role in nation-building.
Delivering a paper on the topic “Empowering Young People to Create Families They Want in a Fair and Hopeful World,”The keynote speaker, Dr. Clement Dongurum from the Department of Geography, University of Jos, urged youths to explore skilled jobs for sustainable development.
