Renal patients at the Jos University Teaching Hospital’s Dialysis Center have applauded the Federal Government for subsidising Dialysis sessions.
They expressed their gratitude in an interview with Radio Nigeria in Jos.
President Bola Tinubu has subsidized the cost of kidney dialysis from N50,000 to N12,000 per session.
The initiative, launched in ten federal medical centers and teaching hospitals nationwide, aims to provide relief to thousands of Nigerians battling kidney-related diseases.
Some of the patients, Mr. Aaron Mark and Benedine Asukwuo, said the gesture by the Federal Government would alleviate their plight and expressed hope it would be sustained.
The Head of the Nephrology Department, JUTH, Professor Oche Abaji, confirmed the hospital’s implementation of the President’s directive on dialysis subsidy and acknowledged the receipt of additional dialysis machines and equipment from the Federal Government.
The Chief Medical Director of JUTH, Dr. Pokop Bupwatda, praised the government, noting that as a leading nephrology training center, the hospital is well-equipped with skilled personnel and facilities to successfully carry out the dialysis subsidy program.
The Head of Stores JUTH, Edwina Puppet, noted a significant surge in dialysis consumables usage due to increased patient numbers following the subsidy directive, and urged the government to ensure a steady supply.
