Stakeholders in the Education sector from the nineteen Northern states and the FCT, have converged on Jos, the Plateau State capital to deliberate and proffer solutions to the myriad of challenges facing the sector, especially the technical and vocational education in the region.
The Northern Technical Education Providers Forum, TVET which was organized by GIZ, Skype, German corporations and the Plateau State Government had the theme: Promoting a Resilient Northern Skills Ecosystem held at Hotel Samaritan in Rayfield, Jos.
Declaring the forum open Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang emphasized the need for collaboration among sectors to create a dynamic environment that nurtures talent, foster creativity, and drives economic growth.

The Governor represented by the Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Piyo, reiterated government’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity in skill development initiatives and providing equal opportunities for all.
The GIZ-SKYE Programme Component Manager, Kikelomo Chibeze, reaffirmed GIZ’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s sustainable development agenda through TVET.
Chibeze explained that GIZ’s focus remains on employment creation, strengthening the quality of TVET systems, and ensuring inclusion particularly for women, persons with disabilities and marginalized groups.
Plateau State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Kachollom Gang noted that climate challenges pose a significant risk to educational advancements in Northern Nigeria.
She however noted that resilience lies in harnessing indigenous strengths.
She added that the region’s skills ecosystem must rest on four pillars: indigenous knowledge and leadership, access to technology, digital connectivity, and innovation.
Earlier,in an address the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education said the aim of the forum was to inculcate in the youths ideas to pursue careers in various aspects in vocational skills for the development of the country.
Participants at the forum are expected to come up with a communique that will guide the states on TVET implementation in their various states.
