The Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) has deployed 18 new volunteers to Liberia and Rwanda, in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s international cooperation and consolidating its soft power diplomacy.
Director-General of NTAC, Dr. Yusuf Buba Yakub, addressed the volunteers during their send-off in Abuja, urging them to uphold national pride and professionalism while serving abroad.
“Leave behind your weaknesses and go with your strengths,” Buba charged. “You are now technical diplomats carrying official passports. Conduct yourselves in a way that shows the world that Nigerians are good, well-trained people.”
The DG emphasized that the deployment was made possible through the visionary 4D policy agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which he said has elevated Nigeria’s global image. “The President’s passion and funding support have made Nigeria a pride to all nations of the world,” he stated.
Since its establishment 38 years ago, NTAC has deployed over 10,000 professionals to more than 40 African, Caribbean, and Pacific countries, contributing to capacity building, cultural exchange, and humanitarian service.
Buba reminded the volunteers of success stories within the programme, including alumni who rose to become Vice-Chancellors of universities. He also advised them to be prudent, disciplined, and to return as better, more experienced individuals.
Ambassador Zakari Usman, Director of Programmes at NTAC, commended the leadership of the DG and applauded President Tinubu’s commitment to the scheme. He congratulated the volunteers, stressing their responsibility as national representatives. “You are a direct reflection of Nigeria; carry yourselves as such,” he said.
Team Leader of the delegation, Professor Solomon Ogbu, speaking on behalf of his colleagues, expressed gratitude for the opportunity. “We were chosen out of millions of Nigerians who applied. We go in good faith, and we will excel. Rwanda, in particular, is one of the cleanest and most hospitable countries in Africa, providing an excellent environment for success,” he noted.
The deployment saw 12 volunteers assigned to Liberia and 6 to Rwanda. The event ended with group photographs, symbolizing NTAC’s continued commitment to international service and cooperation.
