Kogi State Government has flagged off the first phase of the distribution of thirty units of 500KVA transformers across the three senatorial districts of the state.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony at the Government House, Lokoja, Governor Usman Ododo said electricity remains a critical driver of industrial growth, reiterating his administration’s commitment to lighting up rural communities, as every part of the state deserves access to a stable power supply.
The Governor noted that the thirty 500KVA transformers mark the beginning of a new phase in the state’s energy infrastructure development.
He explained that the initiative underscores his administration’s resolve to provide reliable electricity that will enable farmers to process their produce, support artisans and entrepreneurs, and help students study beyond daylight hours.
Governor Ododo emphasized that while it was the responsibility of the government to provide infrastructure, safeguarding such facilities requires the cooperation of citizens with security agencies.
He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his bold and strategic economic reforms, which, according to him, have provided more resources to states to enhance service delivery to the people.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, Mr. Muhammad Abdulmutalib, disclosed that before the distribution, there had been numerous requests for transformers from the three senatorial districts: sixteen from Kogi East, twenty-two from Kogi West, and thirty from Kogi Central.
He assured that, in line with the Governor’s directive, ten transformers will be distributed to each senatorial district in the first phase, with additional allocations to follow in subsequent phases to meet the remaining demands.
