The Kogi State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairman of Ibaji Local Government Area, Mr. Emmanuel Onuche, over alleged gross misconduct and actions said to have brought disrepute to the image of the state.
The decision was taken during plenary in Lokoja.
The Lawmakers directed Mr. Onuche to hand over the administration of the council to his Vice Chairman, Mrs. Victoria Okolo, pending the outcome of an investigation into the allegations.
Speaker of the House, Aliyu Umar Yusuf, said the suspension became necessary to ensure a fair and unhindered investigation.
To this end, the House constituted a five-member committee chaired by Bode Ogunmola to investigate the matter.
Other members of the committee include Ishaya Omotayo Adeleye (Ijumu), Asema Baba Haruna (Adavi), Anthony Ujah (Olamaboro), and Bin-Ebaiya Shehu Tijani (Lokoja I) with Muhammed Bello as the clerk of the committee.
The committee was given one month to submit its findings to the House.
Meanwhile, during the same sitting, three lawmakers announced their defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
They are Bode Ogunmola (Ogori/Magongo), formerly of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Idowu Ibikunle (Yagba East), who defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC); and Sunday Daku (Bassa), also formerly of the PDP.
