Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have intercepted a major drug courier transporting a large consignment of Cannabis Sativa from Ekiti State to Obajana, Kogi State.
The operation, carried out on November 24, 2025, was part of ongoing efforts to restrict criminal activities and disrupt the illicit drug supply chain across the state.
In a statement by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, troops deployed at the Agbede Response Area conducted a routine stop-and-search on a Toyota Camry with registration number DKA 158AU.
It said the vehicle, driven by one Mr. Johnson Ayo, was reportedly found with a branded police hat and belt displayed on the dashboard, heightening suspicion.
According to the statement, a detailed search of the vehicle uncovered 10 sacks of Cannabis Sativa weighing 108.8 kilograms concealed inside the car while preliminary investigations indicate that drug trafficking at such scale not only funds criminal networks but also fuels activities that often escalate into banditry within Kogi State and neighbouring areas.
The statement said the suspect and the seized items have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kogi State Command, for further investigation.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the fight against drug trafficking, tackling enablers of banditry, safeguarding public safety, and ensuring a secure environment for all citizens.
