Wife of the Governor of Kogi State, Hajiya Sefinat Ododo, has urged Nigerians to take united action against the rising cases of digital abuse targeting women and girls.
She made the call during an event held at the Government House, Lokoja, to mark the 2025 Sixteen Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
Speaking on this year’s theme, “Unite! End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls,” Hajiya Sefinat Ododo highlighted the increasing dangers women and girls face on digital platforms.

She appealed to parents to closely monitor the activities of their children both online and offline, stressing that safeguarding families begins with rejecting all forms of online harassment, harmful content, and abuse.
The Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Folashade Arike Ayoade, who also emphasized the need for collective responsibility in combating gender-based violence urged stakeholders to continue supporting efforts to build a safer environment for women and girls.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Acharu Okpanachi, who reaffirmed commitment to collaborate with partners to protect women from all forms of violence, announced the launch of a new initiative that will offer counseling, support services, and awareness programs aimed at promoting women’s rights and ending violence in all forms.

In her presentation, the Chairperson of the Association of Nigerian Women Lawyers (FIDA), Oluwakemi Omeiza, stressed the importance of proper documentation and advised women to gather evidence such as screenshots when reporting digital abuse to strengthen legal action.
The event featured road walk and testimonials highlighting Hajia Sefinat Ododo’s charitable interventions
and support for less privileged children.
