The Northern Governor’s Forum has resolved to establish a Regional Security Fund as part of renewed efforts to tackle the persistent security challenges confronting the region.
This was disclosed by Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya while reading the communique, issued after a meeting with Traditional Rulers from the region, held at the Ibrahim Kashima House, Government House, Kaduna.
For over a decade Nigeria especially the northern region has grappled with a range of security threaths Including,Boko Haram, ISWAP, banditry, kidnapping for ransom, farmer-herder clash and illegal mining activities which has openned the region to various criminal elements.
It is against the background that the Northern Governors Forum alongside their traditional council, resolved to establish a Regional Security Fund with each State expected to contribute 1 billion naira monthly to the funds coffers to tackle the menace.

The Forum also proposed a six month suspension of all mining exploration activities in all member States to allow for revalidation of licences.
It also threw its back to the pronouncement of the President to allow state policing, calling on all National and States’ Houses of Assembly to expedite the necessary legislative processes to actualize it.
The Forum while appreciating the President for his proactive role in securing the release of various adductors, pledged their continuous support to the administration’s fight against acts of insurgency.
