The Benue State Government and the Kukah Centre have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU on improving security initiatives for accountable service delivery.
The exercise was performed in Makurdi at a stakeholders engagement and legal validation of the assessment report on the law establishing the Benue State Civil Protection Guards.
State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, Professor Yangien Ornguga stated that the partnership with the Kukah Center would help to achieve the security challenges in the State.
Represented by the Director of Legal Drafting, Edward Yange, the Attorney General promised to expedite action on submission of the draft copy of the document to the State House of Assembly for necessary amendment.
Project Manager, Kukah Centre, Mr Terseer Bamber explained that Benue is the third, after Kaduna and Plateau States to sign an MOU with the Center, saying it marks the beginning of good things to come to the State.
Mr. Bamber explained that the project is supported by the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria Programme, an Initiative of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, implemented by Tetra Tech International Development and executed by The Kukah Centre.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Internal security, Chief Joseph Har promised to study the document aimed at strengthening activities of the personnel in complementing the jobs of conventional security Agencies in the State.
Providing validation of assessment of the Law, a human rights activist and consultant, Justin Gbagir called for budgetary allocation and specific salary for the personnel, which he observed were not provided in the law.
