The Director General Institute for peace and conflict resolution IPCR, Dr Joseph Ochogwu has emphasised the need for key actors in peace building to prioritize early warning signs and response to check conflicts and climate change in Nigeria.
Dr Ochogwu who made the call during a two day capacity building for multi stakeholders in conflict early warning groups in Makurdi, pointed out that the Project is being implemented by IPCR under the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria, SPRiNG Programme.
Represented by Timothy Torjir, Dr Ochogwu stated that as the Federal Government’s Agency saddled with mandate of promoting peace in Nigeria, the desire to advance peace in the country brought IPCR into collaboration with a consortium of peace and conflict management organisations to Strengthen Peace to attract development.
Facilitator of the programme, Steve Agbo explained that the workshop which drew participants from the Government, Security, People living with disabilities, Civil society organizations, traditional and faith based leaders was to reinforce early warning and response mechanisms towards addressing security challenges in Benue State.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Disability matters, Bem Anshe thanked the organizers for bringing the project to Benue saying it will go a long way in complementing efforts of the state Government in achieving peace.
In their goodwill messages, Martha Akoji of the National Orientation Agency and Ter Makurdi, Chief Vincent Aule represented by Chief Ugondo Tov assured of sustained partnership to achieve success, while Chief Superintendent Narcotics, NDLEA, Ankeli Adoh and blessing Mtagher noted that the training has broadened their knowledge to respond to early warning signs and promised to step down the training.
