The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC Kwara State Command, has arrested 12 suspected illegal immigrants from Mali in the Akerebiata area of Ilorin.
According to statement by the Commands spokesperson, Michael Ayoola, the operation, which occurred at approximately 10:00 PM on Sunday, February 22, 2026, was prompted by a tip-off from concerned members of the public regarding suspicious activities in the neighborhood.
The suspects, identified as Umar Sangari, 25; Bubu Bill, 43; Modibo Keita, 26; Mahmud Jaalo, 22; Bakare Sumonu, 20; Saiku Dubia, 28; Panda Aboubacar, 32; Malle Siaka, 24; Seku Barry, 34; Lamine Bakou, 27; Baye Bolly, 24; and Zuman Traore, 26, were found occupying a two-bedroom apartment rented through a local agent under questionable circumstances.
During the raid, security operatives recovered nine mobile phones, two international passports, various identification cards, a wristwatch, keys, and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The State Commandant, Bala Bodinga disclosed that the command has initiated an intensive investigation to determine the suspects’ motives and to establish whether they have links to any criminal syndicates or intentions to disrupt the peace of the state.
He further noted that once the internal investigation is finalized, the suspects will be handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further processing and action in accordance with national immigration laws.
Commandant Bodinga emphasized that the arrests come at a time of heightened security awareness, asserting that the NSCDC remains fully committed to ensuring Kwara State does not become a haven for criminal elements.
He reiterated the command’s dedication to protecting lives and property while urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to law enforcement agencies to maintain communal safety.
