The Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kogi State Chapter, Comrade Stella Edoka, has called on government, institutions and individuals to embrace policies and initiatives that empower women and protect the rights of girls in society.
Comrade Edoka made the call in a statement to mark the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration, urging stakeholders to align with this year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” by investing in the development and welfare of women and girls.

She described the theme as a strong policy direction that highlights the importance of collective commitment to advancing gender equality and social development.
The NAWOJ Chairperson noted that investing in the empowerment, protection and development of women and girls would lead to social, economic and moral benefits for the entire society.
Comrade Edoka observed that women have continued to contribute significantly to nation building, peace and development despite challenges such as gender inequality, limited access to opportunities and various forms of discrimination.
She said the “Give to Gain” theme also encourages women in leadership and positions of influence to support others through mentorship, guidance and the creation of opportunities for the less privileged.
The NAWOJ Chairperson further emphasized the need for governments, institutions and community leaders to strengthen policies and programmes that promote the safety, welfare and empowerment of women and girls.
Comrade Edoka therefore urged women to remain united, support one another and continue to play active roles in community development, noting that when women uplift each other, society progresses.
She also called on stakeholders to intensify efforts towards protecting the rights of women and children, promoting girl-child education and creating opportunities that will enable women to reach their full potential.
Comrade Edoka congratulated women in Kogi State, Nigeria and across the world on the celebration of the 2026 International Women’s Day, urging them to continue contributing positively to society while inspiring the next generation of female leaders.
