The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Olufemi Oluyede, has called for collective efforts to end acts of terrorism bedevilling the country.
General Oluyede made this known in Maiduguri following a directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in response to the renewed wave of terrorist activities in parts of the Northeast.
Speaking to journalists after a closed-door session at the Headquarters Theatre Command, Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, General Oluyede emphasized that ending terrorism in Borno and Yobe states requires a collective approach.
He stressed that citizens must take ownership of the security challenge and collaborate with security agencies.
On the use of modern equipment by insurgents, the CDS noted that the Nigerian military would deploy advanced technology to counter and defeat them.
He added that the Armed Forces would assess the deteriorating security situation and reinforce ongoing military operations to curb insurgent activities in Borno and neighbouring states.
The President had earlier directed the immediate relocation of key military leadership to the region as part of efforts to decisively tackle the security challenges and restore peace, following deadly attacks by insurgents that resulted in loss of lives and property.
Top military officials deployed to Borno State include the CDS, General Oluyede; the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shuaibu; and other heads of the armed forces.
They are expected to engage in high-level security meetings with field commanders and stakeholders to review strategies and strengthen counterinsurgency operations.
The military leadership is also expected to visit frontline troops and operational bases to boost morale and ensure adequate logistics and support for sustained operations against terrorism.
