Kogi State Government has assured that basketball will receive urgent attention as part of efforts to develop sports in the state.
The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Monday Anyebe, gave the assurance in a message at the inauguration of the Kogi State Basketball Association in Lokoja.
Mr. Anyebe said basketball in the state would take a new direction under the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Represented by the Director of the Kogi State Sports Commission, Mr. Igah Abel James, the Commissioner stated that the government would focus on grassroots development, particularly in rural areas, to promote youth growth through the sport.
He said that the present administration would partner with the Basketball Association to enhance sports development across the state.
Mr. Anyebe also charged the newly inaugurated executives of the association to introduce innovative ideas that would promote the game.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Kogi State Basketball Association, Doctor. Mustapha Abdullahi, assured of his commitment to advancing basketball in the state.
Doctor. Abdullahi, who is also the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, commended the state government for its efforts in promoting sporting activities.
