A project, Bridging the Gaps of Women’s Health and Well-being with the theme, access without barriers, reaching women with disabilities, rural women and survivors of exclusion has been launched in Benue State.
The project is the brainchild of CBM Global Disability Inclusion and the Bureau for International Cooperation and Development, BICD with support from Reconnect Health Development Initiative and other partners.


At the launch, Country Director CBM Global Disability Inclusion, Abdullazeez Musa who spoke through the Programme Officer, Deborah Solomon said the project is aimed to address gender based violence and mental disorders among women and girls with psychosocial disabilities.
Mr. Musa maintained that access to mental health services, legal aid support and livelihood opportunities would be provided for the identified women who would also be encouraged to speak up for their rights to reduce stigma and discrimination among them.
Director General, Bureau for International Cooperation and Development, BICD, Leo-Angelo Viashima stated that the project aligns with the policies of the state government to promote inclusive development, strengthen the social sector through access to health care and protect the vulnerable population.
Mr. Viashima commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for prioritizing the welfare of people with disabilities, noting that the revitalization of the social register as well as signing of persons with disabilities and social investment and promotion laws are all geared towards addressing challenges of vulnerable groups.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Theresa Ikwue and the Zonal Commander, National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, Gloria Bai commended CBM for the initiative and assured of their support to ensure the programme succeeds in the state.
Representative of the Joint National Association of People with Disabilities, Onah Adeyi Who stressed that the well being of people with disabilities is a right expressed hope that the implementation of the project would be inclusive and the concerns of vulnerable people would be addressed.
