The value of nutrition from farm to spoon is central to food security, economic growth, and public health outcomes.
A Professor with the University of Jos Larai Keswet, stated this during her presentation at the 121st Inaugural Lecture at the Aliyu Akwoi Doma Indoor Theater of the institution.
Professor Keswet said Home Economics is fundamental to human existence, linking food production, nutrition, and family well-being to national health and development through sound household management.
Professor Keswet, who established the connection between Home Economics, nutrition, and education, said the lecture was designed to draw attention to practical ways of securing food and sustainable living in Nigerian homes.
In an address, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) and the Chairman of the Senate Inaugural Lecture, University of Jos, Professor Charles Onwochei, noted that, as an interdisciplinary field of study, Home Economics synthesizes knowledge across diverse subject areas—specifically the sciences, arts, and social sciences—to enhance quality living, family well-being, and household management.
In her vote of thanks, the Dean Faculty of Education, Professor Grace Chollom appreciated the VC for making it possible for Professors to present Inaugural lecture series and commended Prof. Keswet for the thorough exhibition of knowledge.
Earlier in an address of welcome, the Vice Chancellor University of Jos Professor Tanko Ishaya, represented by the Registra, Dr. Rejoice Songden, commended Professors in the University of Jos for the increasing numbers of lecture series and expressed optimism of more series in the nearest feature.
Highlights of the 121st lecture series were presentation of gifts to the presenter, dance by the Cultural and Home Economics Association, and group photography by family and friends.
