The Kogi State Government has stressed the need for stronger collaboration to eliminate malaria across the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Doctor. Abdulazeez Adams, made the call during an event marking the 2026 World Malaria Day in Lokoja.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Maji Enoch, the Commissioner revealed that malaria prevalence in the state declined from 16 percent in 2021 to 8.9 percent in 2025.
He emphasized the need to sustain and intensify efforts toward achieving zero malaria status, noting that continuous capacity building remains critical to the success of the state’s Malaria Elimination Programme.
Doctor. Adams also acknowledged the support of development partners for their contributions to the progress recorded so far.
In his remarks, the State SWAP Officer, Dr. Bola Jonah, expressed optimism about the gains made over the years and reaffirmed SWAP’s commitment to supporting malaria elimination efforts in the state.
He highlighted the importance of using insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) and promoting community awareness and engagement.
Also speaking, the State Coordinator of the Malaria Consortium, Okwulu Andrew, congratulated Kogi State on the occasion of World Malaria Day, stressing that sustained collaboration among stakeholders is key to achieving zero malaria prevalence.
