The Nasarawa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to boosting the standard of education across the state, to enhance sustainable development.
Governor Abdullahi Sule made the pledge at the Children’s Day Celebration organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Humanitarian Services that drew pupils, educators among other stakeholders across the state into Lafia.
Governor Abdullahi Sule, represented by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Princess Margaret Elayo who said, children are a gift from God, emphasized that education remains the foundation for building a skilled and productive population.

The governor noted that government would continue to invest in infrastructure, teacher’s training and learning materials to ensure children in both urban and rural areas have access to sound learning.
He urged parents, teachers and communities to complement government effort by ensuring that the environment remains conducive to teaching and learning.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Humanitarian Services, Hauwa Samuel Jugbo while describing the event as an opportunity to honour, celebrate and reflect on the future of children in the state, commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for upgrading the state’s children home, renovating and furnishing the shelter home for victims of gender based violence and trafficking in persons among others.

Mrs Hauwa Jugbo encouraged children to focus more on acquiring positive knowledge, respect their parents and teachers to become responsible adults.The Commissioner charged parents, teachers, and other stakeholders to collaborate with government at all levels in ensuring that every child has an environment conducive to learning.
Presenting a paper with the theme, ‘Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child,’ Doctor Chika Ose Agbo from the Department of English and Literary Studies, Federal University of Lafia said, every child has the right to inclusion regardless of gender.
Speaker Nasarawa State Children’s Parliament, Mary Owusunabi Oboshi, Terlumun Joel Terver and Adasa Patrick commended the organisers of the programme for given them a sense of belonging and appealed to the state government to sustain the giant strides achieved in the education sector.
The Children’s Day Celebration featured match past by over ten schools including Command Science School, Deeper Life High School, Ta’al Model School with cultural display, talks on menstrual hygiene, distribution of sanitary pads and presentation of gifts.
