The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Tanko Ishaya, has reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to promoting academic excellence through inaugural lectures, describing them as vital platforms for intellectual discourse and knowledge sharing.
Professor Ishaya, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Prof. Joshua Pam Chollom stated this while declaring open the 124th Inaugural Lecture Series held at the Aliyu Akwe Doma Indoor Theatre, Permanent Site of the University.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Inaugural Lecture Committee and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Professor Charles Onwochei, encouraged professors who are yet to deliver their inaugural lectures to take advantage of the opportunity in fulfilment of the academic tradition and requirements of the university.
Earlier, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor GIDEON GOSHIT, appreciated the University Management for its unwavering support towards the success of inaugural lectures, noting that such support has continued to strengthen scholarship and research within the institution.
Delivering the lecture titled “The Dialectics of Teleology, Governability Crises and the Sovereignty of the Invisible Hand in Nigeria’s State-Nation Building Process,” Professor Ezekiel Major Adeyi, a Professor of Governance, Identity Politics and Development Communication, provided insights to the challenges confronting Nigeria’s nation-building process.
Prof. Major Adeyi highlighted issues surrounding governance, political identity and institutional development, while proposing practical measures aimed at addressing the recurring crises and strengthening national cohesion.
The event featured the presentation of an award to Professor Major Adeyi by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tanko Ishaya, in recognition of his scholarly contribution.
The ceremony later climaxed with group photographs, cultural displays and exciting dance performances attended by members of the university community and invited guests.
