Almajiris Subjected To Dehumanising Conditions – Lawmaker

The house of representatives wants the Presidential Taskforce on COVID19 to direct state governors to immediately stop the evacuation of Almajiris to their states of origin.

The House also urged the PTF to enforce the interstate travel ban, which will stop the evacuation.

This was sequel to a motion by a member from Gombe state, Hajia Aisha Dukku, on the urgent need to look into the evacuation of Almajiris amidst the COVID 19 pandemic.

The Lawmaker observed that such action was capable of jeopardizing the fight against COVID 19.

Hajia Aisha said the way the children are being transported was also dehumanising.

The children, after travelling many hours under harsh weather, were rejected and turn back by their states of origin or kept in isolation under dehumanizing conditions, she said.

Adopting the motion, the House resolved to call on the federal ministry of health to examine the Almajiris and also called on the ministry of humanitarian affairs to include the Almajiri children among the beneficiaries of palliatives.
