Benue Govt Moves To Settle Communal Crisis

By Terna Injua – Makurdi

The Benue State Security Council is re-strategizing to settle the crisis between communities of Konshisha and Oju Local Government Areas.

Governor Samuel Ortom gave the assurance after presiding over the Security Council meeting involving stakeholders from the two Local Governments at Government House, Makurdi.

Governor Ortom explained that part of steps taken by the Government to end the land related crisis was to demarcate the boundary between the communities, saying a date had already be set for the exercise.

The Governor condemned the practice of communities hiring mercenaries to fight on their behalf and attacking security personnel, stressing that those who carried out the attack on members of the Operation Whirl Stroke would be apprehended.

Governor Ortom appealed to the people to always support security agencies and avoid the temptations of taking laws into their hands so that peace and the rule of law would prevail.
