Forty two armed youths from Logo Local Government Area of Benue State were yesterday granted amnesty by the Benue State Security Council.
They surrendered to the amnesty programme of the Government following agreement between stakeholders in the Sankera geopolitical zone and the security council.
Governor Samuel Ortom who is the chairman of the state security council said twenty five of the armed youths from Ukum and eighty from Katsina Ala who were supposed to be part of the programme went back due to the arrest of Terwase Akwaza.
Mr. Akwaza who is also known as Gana was intercepted at Maseje, near Gboko while being escorted to Makurdi for the amnesty programme by a team of military personnel who took him and some of the armed youths away.
The Governor commended the forty two who made to the amnesty programme despite the confusion and assured them that stakeholders in Sankera and the state Government would support them to a new life devoid of crime.
Mr. Ortom however warned them against returning to their old ways, saying the amnesty granted them was their last opportunity to be integrated into the society as going back to crime would attract severe consequences.
