CBN Advice Nigerians to Embrace Internet Banking

Central Bank of Nigeria CBN,has stressed the need for Nigerians to embrace Internet banking to ensure ease of doing business.

Governor of the apex bank, Godwin Emefiele made the call at ongoing sensitisation campaign in Doma and Obi local government areas of Nasarawa state.

Represented by the Director security services, Atiku Mohammad Nasir, the CBN governor stated that Nigeria needed to go with current global trend on cashless economy.

He called on Nigerians particularly those in rural areas that were yet to have a bank account to hurry and open an E-Naira account .

According to Emefiele,CBN has engaged the services of
super POS operators to ensure speedy swap of the old naira notes with the new ones in the rural areas as deadline for the exchange approaches.

He explained that the super agents would also be responsible for registration of farmers and traders in local communities to open the E-Naira account .

The CBN governor told the gathering that in few years to come,transaction of businesses with cash would be a thing of the past globally.

Hundreds of small scale traders in Doma town queue up to exchange the old notes and open the E-Naira account from some of the super agents that came with the CBN delegation.

Every super agent is given 500 hundred thousand redesigned naira notes daily to make exchange for low income earners with between one thousand and ten thousand old naira notes.

The CBN delegation also visited the traditional ruler of Obi, the Osuko of Obi, Alhaji Aliyu Dangiwa Orume where representative of the governor, Atiku Mohammad Nasir called for assistance of the traditional institution in sensitising their subjects on the importance to deposit their old notes before the expiry date and open an E-Naira account.

Meanwhile CBN has maintained that the 31 of January deadline for the return of old 200,500 and 1000 naira notes stands as residents continue to appeal for extension .
