A serving Corps member in Nasarawa State has donated forty wheelchairs to persons with disability in Uke community, Karu Local Government Area of the State.
Distributing the wheelchairs to the beneficiaries at Government Special Science School, Uke, the donor, a Corps Member, Madugu Panan Amos said, the gesture was prompted when he encountered a physically challenged kid begging for alms while crawling on the ground.
According to him, the wheelchairs would enable them to ride to nearby skill acquisition centres, to learn some skills to be self-reliant.
Director, Beautiful Gate Handicap People Centre, Jos, Plateau State, Ayuba Barki Gufwan who said he’s a polio victim, noted that there is urgent need to liberate and rehabilitate persons with disability hence he partnered the Corps member to empower them towards overcoming their challenges.
Mr Gufwan therefore appealed to government at all levels ‘to give polio survival mobility such as wheelchairs, clutches, to make sure they go to school, learn a trade and be integrated into the society’.
Some of the beneficiaries: Peter Joseph and Hauwa Benedicta Philip prayed God to bless and reward the Corps member, Madugu Amos, for given them a sense of belonging.
Nasarawa State Co-ordinator of the NYSC, Alhaji Abdullahi Jikamshi, commended the Corps member for his remarkable Community Development Service (CDS), to the people of the state, and urged other serving Corps members to follow suit.
Principal, Government Special Science School, Uke, represented by the VP Admin, Mohammed Sani, described Madugu Amos as a true Nigerian whose humanitarian act showed that there’s hope for the unity and growth of the country.
Yakanagi of Uke Chiefdom, Alhaji Abdullahi Hassan, represented by the District Head of Company, Chief Hussaini Danladi appreciated the Corps member and assured that he would be rewarded accordingly.
