Cotton Farmers in Nasarawa State have received three metric tonnes of improved cotton seeds from the Raw Materials Research and Development Council.
Nasarawa State Cordinator of the Council, Zakari Musa Eladoga stated this while distributing the seeds free to cotton farmers in Lafia.
Speaking during the distribution of the free improved cotton seeds to farmers in Nasarawa State, State Cordinator Raw Materials Research and Development Council, Zakari Musa Eladoga said cotton production in Nigeria is at a lower level,hence the need to encourage farmers to go into large scale production to improve the country’s economy.
Mr Zakari Eladoga noted that the variety of the improved cotton seeds given to farmers in the state get matured within ninety days of planting.
He said the cotton seeds were distributed to farmers in the three senatorial zones of the state.
Earlier Chairman at the event who is the State Commissioner for lnformation and Culture,Comrade Dogo Shammah commended Raw Materials Research and Development Council, State Office for encouraging farmers to embark on cotton farming.
On their parts, State Commissioner for Agriculture and Water Resources,professor Otaki Allanana represented by the Director of Engineering Service in the Ministry, Yakubu Jamaa and the Program Manager Nasarawa Agricultural Development Programm,Emmanuel Allanana called on farmers in the state to venture more into cotton farming in order to boost the economic growth of the state.
.Nasarawa State Chairman of the Cotton Farmers Association of Nigeria, Alhaji A.B Bello said his Association would continue to engage farmers in cotton farming in the state at various local levels for mass production.
