Nasarawa state government says, the report making round that it has given out eleven million naira to each member of the state house of assembly as Covid-19 palliative for their respective constituents was false, malicious and baseless.
Secretary to the Nasarawa state government Tijani Aliyu Ahmed stated this in a chat with newsmen in Lafia.
Secretary to the Nasarawa state government Tijani Aliyu Ahmed noted that, government’s attention has been drawn to an online publication that went viral on the social media alleging that it issued eleven million naira to each member of the state Assembly.
Tijani Ahmed pointed out that the story was untrue, malicious and only aimed at tarnishing the image of the assembly members, the governor and government of Nasarawa state.
According to the SSG, the false claim was the handiwork of mischief makers who are bent on soaring the already existing cordial relationship between the executive and the legislative arms of government in the state.
He stressed that government is in support of a committee to investigate the matter to bring anyone found culpable to book to serve as deterrent to others with similar tendencies.
The SSG stated that, the government is appealing to people of the state to always verify information on its policies and programmes from appropriate quarters, promising to take decisive measures against any individual or group found to be spreading false information to the public domain.
Alhaji Tijjani Aliyu Ahmed however affirmed that the state government procured Hilux pick up vans for oversight functions by the assembly members in line with existing practice as provided by law and other extant regulations.
