COVID-19: Police arrests Registrar for violating social distancing order

Registrar of Nasarawa State Polytechnic Lafia, Mr Muktar Wakeel and the Overseer of Lafia North Development Area in the state Alhaji Suleiman Agyo have been arrested by the police for violating the social distancing and public gathering restrictions by the state government.

Commissioner of Police Nasarawa state Mr Bola Longe said the two officials of the state government were arrested in Lafia for attending a wedding ceremony on Saturday at Lungun Wambai in Lafia metropolis.

Mr Muktar Wakeel and Alhaji Suleiman Agyo who is the groom at the wedding were detained at ” A” Division, along Jos road in Lafia.

Mr Bola Longe stated that the suspects posted their pictures on social media at the wedding which drew the attention of the police that led to their arrest.

He stated that the arrested officials who would be charged to court on Tuesday were assisting the police in providing information about other people who attended the wedding for immediate arrests.

The police commissioner advised residents of the state to ensure strict compliance with the government proclamation on social distancing and public gathering restrictions as part of measures to check spread of Covid 19 to the state.
