Customs Confiscates Armoured Car, Goods Worth Over N300m

The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit ZONE ‘C’ says it has confiscated contraband goods worth over N318million.

The contraband was intercepted on the Umuikaa-Aba, Okada-Benin, Benin-Auchi, and Enugu-Ubollo routes, according to him.

The Comptroller, Mr Ali Ibrahim, told reporters in Owerri on Thursday that 9 cars, one an armoured Lexus LX570 jeep without an End User Certificate, and 294 bags of foreign parboiled rice, had been impounded in the last month.

Mr Ibrahim stated that 7 people were arrested during the operation.

The customs chief lamented the damaging impact of smuggling on the economy and security and encouraged Nigerians, particularly the media, to join the department in its fight against the crime.

He praised Customs officers for, “their bravery in the face of difficult missions” and reaffirmed his commitment to their welfare.

Zone C consists of 11 states in the South East and South-South.
