Protesting Youths across the country have been advised to engage government at all levels in meaningful dialogue for their agitation to attain fruition.
Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello who gave the advice while addressing Newsmen at the Government House, Lokoja noted that the peaceful protests by youths were being used to undermine democratic principles across the country.
Alhaji Bello stated that it was imperative for the protesters to actively dialogue with the government noting that President Buhari was keen on ensuring Nigeria’s development.
“May I therefore request that the protesters give us people to engage with, especially on the timeliest schedules for calling it a day which accommodates all reasonable demands”, he said.
While assuring youths that the agitations had reawakened government on its responsibilities, the Governor cautioned that all gatherings be civil and not truncate rights of road users, non protesters & other law abiding citizens.
“As usual, we are for peaceful protests but I do caution that all gatherings must maintain empathy for others who may not wish to march with you at this time. Given our unique position as the gateway to the North and South of the country, I must demand respect for the right of other citizens.” The Governor explained.
He therefore urged the youths to go home and allow government to take action on the various demands.
Alhaji Bello appealed,
“I admonish you that it is time to go home. It is time to allow government attend to your demands. We should not allow the few within government today to misguide us.”
According to him, the situation now confronting the country could escalate to devastating humanitarian crises if not checked adding that persons with divisive tendencies may have infiltrated the ranks of the protesters.
