Essential Workers Appeal For Protection Against Harassment

The need for security agents to accord necessary respect and cooperation to professionals on essential services, especially during this COVID-19 lockdown period has been stressed.

Some of the essential workers which include journalists, health workers and farmers in Ilorin relates their experiences to Radio Nigeria Correspondent in Ilorin.

They alleged that some security personnel, especially, from the Nigeria Police force and the Department of State Security, DSS are making their jobs very difficult as they unnecessarily delay or hinder their movement from one place to the other, as the nature of their jobs demand.

Journalists from different media organisations within Ilorin metropolis have narrated their experiences with some police officers who mounts check points in various locations in the metropolis.

They called on the Kwara State Commissioner of Police , Mr Kayode Egbetokun to assist and support essential workers to carry out their duty.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi says the police officers have been properly oriented on how to address essential workers.

He appealed to all aggrieved essential workers in the state to be calm and assured that the issue would soon be addressed accordingly.
