Farmers Seek Government Support To Improve Harvest

Citizens of Kogi State have been admonished against destruction of public property as it is a setback to development.

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello gave the admonition in a message when he visited Girinya Community in Kogi Local Council.

Represented by the State Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Chief Abubakar Bashir Gegu, the Governor noted that tax payers money was used to obtain such property hence its destruction would be a loss to many.

Alhaji Bello who donated motorized boats to the community explained that government was providing some succour to communities affected by flooding in the Local Government Area and urged the people to remain and maintain public property around them.

The Paramount Ruler of Girinya Community, Mallam Muhammed Momoh Ganaguda appreciated Governor Yahaya Bello for the gesture noting that the boats would go a long way in aiding movement of farm products as well as displaced persons back to their communities.

An elder in the community, Mallam Muhammed Ibrahim appealed for provision of farm inputs including improved seedlings to ease farming activities as the water recedes.

On her part, a rice farmer, Mrs Esther Bitrus decried the destruction caused by the recent flooding and sought assistance particularly to women engaged in farming along the riverine areas.

Also, a youth, Abdulkarim Bashir appreciated the efforts of government in improving the plight of the people and sought intervention on erosion control within the community.
