The National Commission For Refugees ,Migrants, Internally Displaced Persons, NCFRMI has assured of the Federal Government’s support to facilitate the return of IDPs to their homes to resume farming activities.
Federal Commissioner In charge of the agency Senator Garba Mohammed gave the assurance today during a courtesy visit to Governor Samuel Ortom at the Government House, Makurdi.
He said Benue amongst many states has internally displaced persons that should be given serious attention like those in the North East.
Senator Muhammed who identified the struggle for arable grazing lands as a major reason responsible for the frequent clashes between farmers and herders commended governor Ortom for his efforts in restoring peace and normalcy within the troubled Communities.
The Federal commissioner for Refugees and Idps advised those assisting the Idps to follow the hygienic and safety guidelines instructed by the relevant health authorities to curtail the spread of the virus.
Responding ,Governor Samuel Ortom represented by his deputy Engineer Benson Abounu expressed the states willingness to help partner the commission in the provision of relief materials for people affected by crisis and disasters in the state.
The Governor thanked the commission for the visit and reminded senator Muhammed of the influx of refugees into kwande Local Government from Cameron and internally displaced persons in various parts of the state due to incessant attacks on Benue farmers by herdsmen
