Federal Fire Service Deploys Truck to Boost Fire Fighting in Yobe

The Federal Fire Service, FFS, is to collaborate with the Yobe State government to help address fire outbreaks in the state to guard against loss of lives and property.

The Controller General, CG, Federal Fire Service, Dr. Liman Ibrahim stated this in Damaturu the State Capital at the inauguration of modern firefighting equipment.

Dr. Ibrahim said the deployment of such equipment became necessary because of the peculiar security situation in the Northeast where criminals see arson as part of warfare.

According to the CG, Fire havoc just like the above factors has the potentials of threatening the physical well-being of the population thereby destabilizing economic growth.

“ The deployment of this truck was influenced by the Senate President, Sen Ahmed Lawan to improve firefighting and rescue in the state.

“Firefighting is the responsibility of all, hence the need for a robust collaboration between the Federal and state governments,” the CG added.

Dr. Ibrahim requested the Inclusion of the FFS in the State Security Council, strengthening of the state fire service through recruitment of capable hands, rehabilitation of fixed and mobile assets, and enhancement of welfare package of the state firefighters to paramilitary salary structure.

Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni represented by Deputy Governor Idi Gubana commended the Federal Government for boosting the fire-Fighting capacity of the state noting that fire emergencies will henceforth get an immediate response.

He said plans were ongoing to drill boreholes at fire service stations and across the state to make water available for rapid response to fire disasters and other rescue operations.

The Yobe State governor noted that plans were underway to strengthen the state fire Service with the Procurement of twenty-seven Fire trucks, 1 ambulance, firefighting equipment, and Renovation of the state fire service offices.

He explained that with the establishment of a new market in the state, firefighting vehicles and equipment were essential facilities for safer economic activities

Governor Buni also solicited the FFS  partnership to train and retrain the State firemen to enable them to have modern ideas in the discharge of their duties.

The Emir of Damaturu, Alhaji Shehu Hasimi II, Ibn Umar Elkanemi assured the delegation of his support and continued community enlightenment on fire safety and precautions.
