Federal Government has been advised to engage the services of Primary Health Practitioners in checking spread of COVID-19.

The former National President, Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Bolaji who gave the advice while speaking with Radio Nigeria in Ilorin said that tertiary and secondary health sectors can not manage the outbreak of Coronavirus alone.

Alhaji Bolaji observed that the primary health care facilities which are situated in all the seven hundred and seventy four local government areas of the country can work effectively with the National Centre for Disease Control and the Federal Ministry of Health.

The retired community health practitioner while expressing concern that the number is increasing on daily basis called for holistic approach and inclusion of primary health care workers.

He said that the health workers in the rural areas are the foot soldiers who would help to contain community transmission which the country is witnessing.

Alhaji Bolaji, however, admonished Nigerians not to be negligent with their personal and environmental hygiene such as regular hand-washing, social distancing and other precautionary measures aimed at preventing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
