The Federal Government is to collaborate with Ogun State to promote the developmental plan for Lagos-Ibadan railway infrastructure and forestall building of illegal structures along the rail corridors.
To this end, a committee comprising officials of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) and the Ogun State Government has been inaugurated as part of proactive steps to prevent vandalism of the facilities and haphazard development along the passageways.
At the event, Ogun State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Tunji Odunlami said that 5 out of 10 Train terminus along Lagos/Ibadan railway stations were domiciled in Ogun State.
He maintained that the move would check the tendency for people to develop slums or shanties along the corridors of rail stations.
Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Gbenga Dairo, said the operations of the rail system had impacted greatly on the socio-economic activities of the state and promised the government’s support for the project in the interest of the people.
Director Operations, NRC, Mr. Niyi Alli, said the Corporation would ensure that necessary arrangements were put in place for the smooth running of the rail system, adding that the Federal Government was ready to assist the state in actualizing its dream of promoting proper physical planning.
