FG Feeds Over 9 Million Pupils- Minister

The Federal Government says it provides one free meal to over nine million pupils under the National Home-Grown School Feeding Program across the country.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster management and social development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq made the statement during the official flags off and handover of feeding Utensils to primary schools in Lokoja, Kogi state capital.

She said that the program was designed to address poverty in the country, stressing the federal government’s commitments of lifting one hundred million Nigerians out of poverty.

Hajiya Sadiya explained that, as a collaborative effort, the federal and the state governments have a shared responsibility and specific roles in the provision of the Free meal to the children.

Kogi state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello who was represented by Secretary to the Kogi state government, Doctor Arike Ayoshade thanked the President for the program and advised the cooks to use the utensils well in order to achieve the purpose.

The state focal person, National Social Investment program, NSIP, Mr. Abdulkareem Onekeyin said there has been an upsurge in enrollment in public schools since the program commenced in the state.
