FG Inaugurates Committee On Coordination Amongst Humanitarian Actors

The Minster of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouk has inaugurated the National Humanitarian Coordination Technical Working Group to ensure a seamless coordination amongst humanitarian actors in the country.

On the occasion in Abuja, the Minster said, the technical Group would facilitate a more structured and efficient approach to the realization of the Civil-Security Cooperation in Humanitarian Interventions in the North-East and other parts of the country.

The Minster recalled that a workshop was convened last year to bring the stakeholders together to foster understanding and harmony.

She stated that, “to provide some context, the CiSEC Workshop held in Maiduguri from 6th – 8th November 2019, in order to bring the stakeholders together to deliberate on ways to ensure seamless delivery of humanitarian action to affected communities; and foster harmony amongst all the stakeholders.

The Workshop was well attended by participants cutting across various International NGOs, security services, relevant Government MDA’s, and academia,”

She appealed to the members to live up to expectation of efficient humanitarian service delivery to the vulnerable population.

Hajiya Sadiya, explained that the committee will ensure accountability and transparency in the disbursement and movement of donor funds, adding that the Ministry, working with UN OCHA has developed a National Cash and Voucher Assistance Policy.

Reacting, a Co-Chairman of the Committee, and Director overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development Alhaji Ali Grema assured the Minster that the committee would deliver on the responsibilities. 

The Terms of Reference for the Committee also include, accelerating the implementation of CiSEC Framework, and proposing a national vision for humanitarian action to affected communities in the country.

Others include, ensuring that functional engagements between security and humanitarian actors remain consistent with the principles under the CiSEC framework, Promote advocacy on humanitarian access, protection and logistics issues.

The Committee will also be co – chaired by the Permanent Secretary (SSO-OSGF-ONSA)
