FG Restates Commitment To Gender Equality

Federal Government says it will continue to pay maximum attention to gender equality in the implementation of the Value Chain Development Programme to enhance food production, peace and development in the country.

National Programme Coordinator of Value Chain Development Programme, Mallam Garba Bala stated this at a five-day capacity-building workshop on Gender Issues in Lafia the Nasarawa State capital.

The event which is tagged Catalyst Workshop on Gender Action Learning System, GALS was organized for staff of the nine participating states across the country in the Value Chain Development Programme.

According to the National Programme Coordinator, International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD, the donor agency for the implementation of the Value Chain programme lays emphasis on Gender equality and inclusiveness hence the workshop to develop the capacity of the participants.

Nasarawa State Programme Coordinator Value Chain Development Programme Dr Eunice Adigidzi noted that the workshop will provide an opportunity for more women to be engaged in the programme in the areas of nutrition, financial inclusion and crop processing.

Giving an insight into the workshop, Rural Institutions, Gender and Youth Development Specialist to the Value Chain Development Programme Mr Musa Dalang said the programme was a new model mainly for non-literate farmers.
