FG Should Have Sued Twitter, Not Place a Ban – Falana

Human Rights lawyer and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, says the Federal Government erred in suspending Twitter operations, saying they should have sued the microblogging site instead.

According to the lawyer who was a guest on Channels Television, rather than place a ban, the government is supposed to have “sued Twitter if it refuses to respond positively to the concerns of the government”.

The government had said misinformation and fake news has spread unabated on the social media platform, thereby threatening the corporate existence of the country.

Lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) staged a walkout during plenary at the House of Representatives, after its caucus leader Kingsley Chinda was ruled out of order by Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, for asking the Federal Government to shelve the Twitter ban while the House conducts its investigation into the legality of the suspension.
