FG Trains Yam Farmers on Modern Storage in Nasarawa

Federal Government has commenced training for farmers in Nasarawa State on modern methods of effective post harvest handling of yam for wealth creation.

Declaring the workshop open in Lafia the Nasarawa State capital, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Mohammed Abubakar said the initiative was to ensure seamless exportation of yam by 2023.

The programme was organized in collaboration with Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

Addressing the farmers, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Dr Mohammed Abubakar said the federal government would continue to make inroads toward harnessing the vast potentials in the Agricultural Sector for economic prosperity.

The minister represented by Nasarawa State Coordinator Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Dr Ikechukwu Ofomata stated that the training would focus on building the capacity of yam farmers for optimal productivity.

Desk Officer, Yam Value Chain, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Dr. Perpetua Iyere – Usiahon pointed out that Nigeria had all it takes to be placed on the yam global market if attention was given towards improving its production.

Some of the participants in the training, the Nasarawa State Chairmen of National Association of Yam Producers and Processors, Mr. Ibrahim Ogoshi and his counterpart in the Yam Sellers Association of Nigeria, Mallam Mohammed Alhaji noted that the programme would boost yam productivity and value chain.
