FG Urged To Allow Farmers To Farm During Lockdown


Government at all levels has been urged to create a conducive environment for youths to enable them, embrace farming to boost food production amidst the Coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement, The Executive Director of a Non-governmental organization, Leadership Entrepreneurship and Advocacy Network, Mr Chukwuma Okenwa, says the call becomes imperative following the lockdown meant to check the spread of COVID-19 in most parts of the country.

The statement says the country has witnessed an increase in food consumption and other edibles since the lockdown as many Nigerians stayed at home.

It stresses that farmers no longer go to their farms due to the lockdown and closure of the country’s borders hence the need for a strategy that will ensure farmers return to their farms.

The statement also urges youths particularly the corps members to leverage on the lands in their villages to boost food production in the country.
