The Controller General, CG, of the Federal Fire Service, FFS, Dr Liman Ibrahim has called for effective collaboration between the Service and the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA in disaster management, particularly flood disaster.
Dr. Ibrahim made the call on Wednesday during a visit to the Director General of NEMA, Mr. Ahmed Habib at NEMA’s, headquarters , Abuja.
He said the visit was to solicit the support of NEMA in training Fire Fighters to respond to flood disaster being first responder to emergency situation.
“Our own is to help Nigerians, to help those in need during the disaster. Now, this is raining season very soon there will be flooding here and there, so I am requesting you to kindly help us in training divers because just like I explained when we launched our ambulance services. Ambulance services is not the duty of Fire service we suppose to have national ambulance services but in the absence of that being the first responder to emergencies when we arrive people will want to see us doing something if we say it’s not our duty Nigerians would not listen to us so we need your intervention in that area too, training and retraining of our paramedics, we would train them too but we need you to also intervene,” the CG said.
The DG NEMA , Mr. Ahmed Habib gave an assurance of NEMA’s support to relevant agencies for efficient service delivery to the nation.
“Controller General I assure you fully that we would fully collaborate on that. Training of divers, I also give you my word on that,” DG NEMA noted.
Mr Habib commended the personnel of the Federal and States Fire Service for their prompt response in recent fire disasters in parts of the country, describing their intervention as timely.
