Governor Samuel Ortom has directed immediate payment of twenty five percent COVID-19 allowance to resident doctors and employment of doctors on bond programme with the state.
He gave the directive when the state chapters of National Association of Resident Doctors and Nigerian Medical Association honoured him with awards of excellence.
The Governor who acknowledged the services and sacrifices of medical doctors to the growth of any society noted that their welfare needed to be given priority to motivate them.
Governor Ortom expressed appreciation to the two medical associations for recognizing his contributions in uplifting the health sector with the awards and promised to do more.
State Chairman Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Dr. Samuel Anaja while presenting the NMA award which he said was well deserved requested that doctors on bond programme with the Government be given permanent employment.
On her part, President, National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, Benue State University Teaching Hospital chapter, Dr. Amina Onyewuchi thanked Governor Ortom for supporting the hospital in the area of residency training programme.
Dr. Onyewuchi noted particularly with delight the executive order given by the Governor for the adoption and implementation of the medical residency training act in the state which has made BSUTH as the first tertiary health institution in Nigeria to adopt the act.#
