Government Urged On Quick Distribution Of Agriculture Incentives For Rain-Fed Farming

Government at various levels have been urged to quickly provide incentives for farmers to commence preparation for this year raining season to avoid hunger that may arise after the COVID-19 breakthrough.

Kwara State Chairman, All Farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAN, Comrade Olawale Ajibola gave the advice in an exclusive phone interview with Correspondent Lanre Omotoso.

Comrade Ajibola said the quick intervention in the areas of functional tractors, improved seedlings, fertilizers and chemicals would help farmers to overcome food insecurity.

He said the Coronavirus lockdown had resulted to many people not able to feed on required balance diet due to lack of money as many Nigerians depend on daily income for survival.

While noting that peasant farmers are the ones feeding the majority of the population, the Kwara State AFAN Chairman stressed the need for the quick intervention to avoid incurable diseases that may arise due to lack of good food nutrients.

Comrade Ajibola however enjoined farmers in Kwara State to always observe all government instructions while carrying out their farming activities such as regular washing of hands, use of hand sanitizer and social distancing to avoid spread of Coronavirus.
