A one day food exhibition depicting over thirty ethnic groups in Nasarawa State organised by a coalition of women groups in the state has begun with a call on Government at at all levels to step up efforts in promoting production and consumption of local foods.
At the opening of the exhibition in Lafia, former National President, National Council for Women Societies, Hajiya Ramatu Dalhatu who spoke on the theme ” Unity in Diversity”, indentified food as a major instrument that can be used to enhance peace, cohesion and security of a nation.
Hajiya Ramatu Dalhatu said the availability of food determines the strength and virility of a society hence the need for leaders to prioritize production and commerciazation of indigenous agricultural products as part of empowering the people
Nasarawa State President of National Council for Women Societies, Mrs Aisha Idoma said the exhibition was part of steps towards promoting tolerance and peaceful coexistence among the diverse ethnic groups in the state.
Governor Abdullahi Sule commended the women for the initiative and pledged continuous support for groups whose focus was centred on cultural integration and harmony.
The Governor was taken round to inspect dishes of food items displayed by the various ethnic groups in the state.
