Gunmen Kidnap INEC Official in Nasarawa

Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the kidnap of the Administrative Secretary of the State Independent Electoral Commission, NASIEC Mr. Mohammed Abubakar.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Ramhan Nansel in a statement in Lafia, said unknown gunmen numbering about five stormed Mr Mohammed Abubakar’s residence at Bakin Rijiya village along Lafia – Shendam road and took him away after firing gunshots in the early hours of Wednesday (today).

ASP Ramhan Nansel stated that the Commissioner of Police in the state Mr. Adesina Soyemi had responded swiftly by leading a detachment of Police personnel comprising the Anti Kidnapping unit, Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit and other tactical units of the Command to the scene of the incident.

He added that the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of State Criminal Investigation Department had also been directed to immediately move to the scene and conduct a comprehensive investigation to unveil the faces of the abductors as well as ensure the safe release of the victim.
