The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria with the acronym FRCN is Africa’s largest radio network. It has six zonal stations operating on Short and Medium wave-bands (SW & MW), with FM stations spread across the country. The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria is pioneer broadcast organization in Nigeria with a rich culture of excellence. The Corporation has evolved through different stages to become what it is today, the largest radio network. However, available record reveals that radio broadcasting was introduced into Nigeria in 1933 by the then colonial government as the “Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation” and was later re-organized in 1978 to become what it’s known today, FRCN.

Today, FRCN as a public service broadcaster with its headquarters in Abuja, has zonal national stations in Enugu, Ibadan, Kaduna, Gwagwalada in FCT, Bayelsa, Lafia  plus Lagos Operation office. National Station (ANS) was conceived by the board of trustees to commence operation in 2002 but without an erected building/structure. The building which was to house the equipment for the station was later completed in 2004 and thus, Harmony FM was established.

Hajia Bola, an indigene of Offa and a Senior Officer in FRCN (ANS) was then appointed as the Pioneer General Manager in 2005 to pilot the affairs of the station. Her tenure lapsed in 2007 even before the Station became operational. Consequently, Mallam Yusuf Abubakar was then appointed as the General Manager in 2007 and led the administration of the station till February 2009. Meanwhile, the general installation of equipment for the station was uncompleted by the contractor (Northgate Engineering Nig. Limited) until July, 2008.

Moreover, an hour test transmission progranmme took off immediately the transmitter was installed for a period of three months and was later changed to three hours to signaling the take-off of the station under Mallam Yusuf Abubakar. During this period of test transmission, Mallam Yusuf Abubakar (GM) was solidly assisted by other co-staffers of the corporation, who are referred to as Pioneer Staffers. These people are Abubakar Olayinka (Engineering Department), Moshood Aliyu (IT Department) and Hajia Binta Abubakar Mora (Programmes).

Precisely, in March 2009, Mallam Abdul Mualiy Olanrewaju Adegboyega was confirmed as the new General Manager alongside 36 co-staffers from ANS to paddle the affairs of the station. Thus, the station commenced operation in earnest.

Radio Nigeria, Harmony FM which operates on the frequency 103.5 Mega Hertz in Idofian, Kwara State, has since then waxed stronger in the area of broadcasting, covering at least 10 states in the country with its effective and efficient programmes in the area of News, Sports and Entertainment etc. This station has however, continued to be the source of joy among other stations in the North Central area of the country and now transmits programmes effectively for a period of 18 hours from 6am to 12am everyday.

The official commissioning of the station was later performed by the Honourable Minister of Information and Communications, Prof. Dora Akunyili, on 14th December, 2009. Present at the occasion were the Deputy Governor of Kwara State, the Kwara State Speaker House of Assembly, and highly respected personalities from in and outside the state.
Currently the station is under the leadership of Alh. Abdulwahab Akosile who took the baton of leadership from Alh. Abdul Mualiy Adegboyega in July, 2020.
